ALPENA -- A quilt show and luncheon sponsored by Gone to Pieces Quilt Guild of Alpena will be hosting a Friendship Day at the First United Methodist Church located at 167 S. Ripley Blvd. on Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
More than 100 members which consist of beginners, intermediate, and professional quilters that enjoy sharing their talents by making quilts and quilted items to donate to worthy causes.
The speaker, Diane LaBell, has made many Quilts of Valor and will present quilts to some of our local veterans and share how the Quilts of Valor program got started and how people can get involved in making quilts for our veterans.
Many quilts will be displayed over the pews in the sanctuary along with a display of veteran's items. A chance auction quilt, baskets, and prizes will be awarded to attendees. The profit from the event will go to purchase batting and quilting supplies so the members can make more quilts to donate. There will be four vendors with quilting items to sell.
Anyone interested in having lunch and enjoying the display of quilts and seeing the quilts presented to the veterans is welcome. Tickets are $15 and need to be purchased by Sept. from Caroline Ritze at 989-727-3116.
