HARRISVILLE – It is going to be a busy month at the Alcona County Library, as there are many events planned for people of all ages.
Also, the Alcona County Library branches will be closed on Saturday and on Monday, to observe Labor Day. It will reopen on its usual schedule on Sept. 8.
Ongoing throughout September is the Northeast Michigan Artists Guild presents a juried exhibit entitled “Creative Eye.” Come enjoy these local works of art, on display at the Harrisville branch until Oct. 21.
Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. is the Ukulele Jam. Learn to strum crowd-pleasing songs both old and new with our welcoming collective of musicians, at the main branch in Harrisville.
On the first and third Tuesdays at 1:15 p.m. there is the Knitting Klub and Crochet for all practitioners of the fiber arts, beginner to advanced.
On Wednesdays at 1 pm, home schooled and alternatively-schooled youth are invited to partake in our weekly S.T.E.A.M. activity, intended for school-age kids who are able to read.
On Sept. 2 at 1 pm, The Friends of Alcona County Library will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Mikado branch, located at 2291 S F41.
On Thursdays at 9 a.m., the Walking Club for everyone. Meet in the parking lot at the main branch for an enjoyable stroll through Harrisville before the library opens.
Every Thursday at the Harrisville branch will be Story Time and Craft for young children. Our Children’s Specialist Melanie will read a story aloud, and lead a craft for young patrons and their grownups to enjoy.
On Friday, it will be Free Popcorn Friday. Stop in and help yourself to a bag of theater-style popcorn, while supplies last.
Also on Friday at 11 a.m. is the Harrisville State Park Story and Craft. Join Miss Melanie for a nature-themed story and craft at the Harrisville State Park pavilion. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for entry.
On Mondays at 10:30 a.m., there is Music & Movement with Miss Melanie at the Harrisville branch. Our weekly program for kids ages zero to five years old will get them singing and dancing together.
On Sept. 19th at 1 p.m., fans of Pokemon are invited to join the library’s Pokemon Club. Learn to play the Pokemon Battle Academy trading card game with fellow aspiring Pokemon trainers.
On Sept. 21st at 2 p.m. there is Make-it Monday craft for adults. Our September craft will be painted leaves! There is no cost to participate this month, but please reserve your spot by calling 724-6796 as space is limited.
On Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. the Alcona County Library Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Harrisville branch.
On Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m., for all birders and nature lovers, the Ausable Audubon Society will present “Ancient Bird, Enduring Legacy” about the iconic sandhill crane.
Also on Sept. 26 at 1 p.m., there will be an informative and impartial candidate forum featuring candidates for city office in Harrisville.
