ALPENA -- The Association of Lifelong Learners (ALL) have announced its programs week of September 21-25. Below is information and a few details about each.
On Monday, there will be a presentation about the newThunder Bay Theatre from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. at 400 N. 2nd Ave, Alpena
After two fires, a robbery, and six years of being closed to the public, Thunder Bay Theatre is ready to take center stage again! Be one of the first to tour the historic building after a $2 million renovation that completely restored and updated the building, inside and out. In addition to a tour, attendees will get a chance to learn about the organization's origins, the building's over one hundred year old history, and the plans to bring back live, professional theatre once again. The show will go on!
Anne Gentry has been the President of the Board of Directors at Thunder Bay Theatre since 2021, where she has led the monumental renovation, securing grants, foundation support, and private donations in order to complete the project. She has been Executive Director of the Alpena Downtown Development Authority since 2017, where she leads projects and programs related to the revitalization of Downtown Alpena.
On Tuesday, a Autumn Bildson-Stone Carving Artist will be presenting from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. ACC Madeline Briggs Center 140
Autumn Bildson is the artist who did the "Eye of the Beholder" stone sculpture placed on the lawn of Alpena's City Hall to honor America's 250th anniversary. She will share with us the creation of this artwork from the initial maquette cut to completion. You will be able to see first hand how a stone becomes a work of art.
Bildson, a Black River resident, has been an artist as long as she can remember. The high school art room stirred her creative juices and with an introduction to stone sculpture she found her passion. She has been able to form a successful business with her husband's help doing the "work" she loves.
September Happening to Recognize Presenters will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Alcona County Commission on Aging (ACCOA) at 807 N. Barlow Rd, Lincoln
The September Happening and Presenter Recognition Program will be held at the new Alcona County Commission on Aging (ACCOA) facility, which includes the Sunrise Community Center. A member of the ACCOA Staff will present an overview of the facility and services provided at this location. There will also be a tour of the facilities. Food services are being provided by the ACCOA.
Please register for the event so we can have an accurate number for setup and food. The facility is located at 807 N Barlow Rd., Lincoln, MI 48742, which is just south of the village of Lincoln. N. Barlow Road can be reached from US-23 south of Ossineke.
Members can register online or by dropping off a registration form in the office, or by calling the ALL office.
This event is open to the public. Non-members, please call the Association of Lifelong Learners at 989-358-7207 to register.
An Alpena High School tech workshop is also on Thursday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the ACC Madeline Briggs Center 140
Bring any and all of your technology devices that are giving you headaches to this workshop. Bring in all your questions about those devices to this workshop. The AHS students of DECA** club is here to help. These students know it all, if one can't help another can. Club advisor Amanda Pilarski also shares her knowledge and skills. This is one-on-one help that focuses on your situation and concerns. The students participate in various statewide competitions in the spring. If you find their skills helpful and valuable, any donation to help offset the expense of these competitions would be appreciated.
** Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is a high school and college program for students interested in business. The organization prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
