HARRISVILLE -- October is shaping up to be a busy month for the Alcona County Library. Below is a schedule of events, as well as a brief description of some of the events.
Ongoing through October 21st: Northeast Michigan Artists Guild presents a juried exhibit entitled “Creative Eye.” Come enjoy these local works of art, on display at the Harrisville branch until Oct.21.
Every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. is the Walking Club for everyone. Meet in the parking lot at the main branch for an enjoyable stroll through Harrisville before the library opens.
Every Thursday at the Harrisville branch is story time and crafts for young children. The library's Children’s Specialist Melanie will read a story aloud, and lead a craft for young patrons and their grownups to enjoy.
On Friday at the Harrisville branch it is Free Popcorn Friday. Stop in and help yourself to a bag of theater-style popcorn, while supplies last.
Every Monday in October at 10:30 a.m. is Music & Movement with Miss Melanie at the Harrisville branch. Our weekly program for kids ages 0-5 will get them singing and dancing together!
Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. is a Ukulele Jam. Learn to strum crowd-pleasing songs both old and new with our welcoming collective of musicians, at the main branch in Harrisville.
On the first and third Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. is the Knitting Klub and Crochet for all practitioners of the fiber arts, beginner to advanced.
On Wednesdays at 1 p.m. is home schooled and alternatively-schooled youth are invited to partake in our weekly S.T.E.A.M. activity, intended for school-age kids who are able to read.
On Oct. 7 at 1 p.m., the Friends of Alcona County Library will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Curtis Township branch library, located at 4884 Bamfield Rd. in Glennie.
On Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. is the perfect event for birders and nature lovers. The Ausable Audubon Society will present “Identifying Michigan Fall Ducks.” Please call 724-6796 to RSVP.
On Oct 15 through Oct. 17, the Friends of Alcona County Library will hold its Fall book sale. Shop an amazing variety of quality pre-owned books at unbeatable prices, and support Library events and programs with every purchase!
On Oct.17 at 1 p.m., young fans of Pokemon are invited to join the library’s Pokemon Club! Learn to play the Pokemon Battle Academy trading card game with fellow aspiring Pokemon trainers.
On Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. there is Make-it Monday craft for adults. Please reserve your spot by calling 724-6796 as space is limited!
On Oct.21 at 3 p,.m. there is the Cozy Watercolor class with artist and author Abigail Adams. This free event is supported by a grant from the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan. Please call 724-6796 to reserve your spot!
On Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. at Curtis Township Library: Celebrate Dolly Parton’s brilliant career and her dedication to literacy! Watch her classic 1980 film, show off your best Dolly-inspired fashions and donate to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library through Your Child Reads Iosco & Alcona. 4884 Bamfield Rd. in Glennie.
On Oct. 26 at noon, the Alcona Book Club will hold its regular monthly meeting to discuss “In the Garden of Monsters” by Crystal King. Copies are available at the Harrisville circulation desk.
On Oct. 28 at 2 p.m., the Alcona County Library Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Harrisville branch.
On Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. at Curtis Township Library, kids are invited to CTL’s annual Halloween Party to enjoy treats, games and prizes! 4884 Bamfield Road in Glennie.
