Conversation about Michigan’s future: Celebrating 250 years of American democracy

ALPENA -- As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Alpena Community College will host a local gathering on Oct.21, at the Granum
Theatre in conjunction with the Bridge Michigan Issues Summit.
The statewide summit brings Michiganders together to examine the issues that matter most to communities across the state. The inaugural summit is being produced by Bridge Michigan.
The Summit's panels will draw from Bridge Michigan's yearlong reporting initiative, Bridge listens, and will be moderated by Bridge Michigan reporters, diving deep into top reporting
areas.
Topics will include health, education, the environment, and the economy/affordability.Here in Northeast Michigan, we have the opportunity to experience that conversation together -- and to add a Northeast Michigan perspective to it.
The Summit will be available virtually, but joining us in person at ACC's Granum Theatre offers an opportunity to watch the statewide discussion together and then engage in live local
dialogue during breakout sessions focused on how these issues affect our communities and our region.
As we celebrate 250 years since the Declaration of Independence, this gathering provides an opportunity to put the principles of representative government, civic participation, informed
citizenship, and community dialogue into practice.
