ALPENA – Milo Dahleen from Alpena High School was named as a semi-finalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced over 16,000 semifinalists in the 72nd annual program, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors. These seniors are competing for approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth about $24 million.
To reach the Finalist level, semifinalists must submit a detailed application detailing their academic record, school/community participation, leadership, employment, and honors. They must also receive a high school official’s recommendation, write an essay, and earn confirming SAT or ACT scores.
