AAA: Michigan gas prices spike 28 cents in a week

DEARBORN – Gas prices in Michigan are up 28 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.31 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 6 cents more than this time last month and $1.04 more than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $65 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $14 from 2025’s highest price last August.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 8.92 million barrels per day to 8.55 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 205.7 million to 206.9 million barrels. Gasoline production decreased from 9.8 million barrels per day to 9.3 million barrels.
At the close of Friday's formal trading session, WTI fell $2.43 to settle at $100.05 a barrel. The EIA reports that U.S. crude oil inventories decreased 0.4 million barrels to 424.1 million barrels, matching the five-year average.
“Michigan drivers are seeing a significant increase at the pump, with gas prices reaching levels we haven't seen since early August ,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “This sharp increase underscores the ongoing volatility in global oil markets and serves as a reminder of how quickly fuel prices can shift.”
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit's average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit's current average is $4.30 per gallon, about 19 cents more than last week's average and $1.12 more than this same time last year.
The most expensive gas price averages were in Ann Arbor where the average cost was $4.35 a gallon. The least expensive gas price average was in Traverse City at $4.22 a gallon.
