Fun events at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

ALPENA -- There are several fun events planned at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary this month. Below is a brief description for some of them
On Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Sanctuary, there is a public event entitled Marine Science Lightning Talks: Discoveries Across Our Sanctuaries. Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary is hosting this year’s retreat for the NOAA Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship program. This presentation will feature some of the current scholars.
The Thunder Bay Maritime Festival is scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 21 to Aug. 23. This weekend will feature tall ship sails available for purchase and many free, public events. View a full schedule at the website event page online.
During the Thunder Bay Maritime Festival weekend certified divers will have the opportunity to partake in Vintage Diving Days, led by the National Association of Underwater Instructors. This hands-on event lets certified divers test out heritage dive gear in a safe, controlled environment and requires pre-registration. It will take place on Aug. 22.
The Dork Brothers’ Battle of the Paddles race is also back during the Thunder Bay Maritime Festival. It will take place on Aug. 21. A flyer is attached and you can find more information on its Facebook event page.
