Dump truck hits car on U.S. 23, crews extricate occupant

ALPENA – Alpena Township firefighters extricated a person from a passenger vehicle Monday morning following a two-vehicle crash involving a dump truck near the Verizon store on U.S. 23 South, Fire Chief Tim Baker said.
The Alpena Township Fire Department was dispatched at 10:37 a.m. Crews from the township's south station were first on scene. Six township firefighters responded.
"There was a two-vehicle accident involving a dump truck and a passenger vehicle. It appeared as if the dump truck T-boned the vehicle, resulting in the occupant being unable to get out. We had to extricate them by removing the door to get them out of the vehicle," Baker said.
The occupant was not in critical condition, Baker said. The Alpena Fire Department and Michigan State Police also responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
