ALPENA -- There is a long list of things to enjoy and do at the Alpena County library this month. Below is a list of many of the events planned for the coming weeks.
On Aug. 4, 5, 11, 12, there will be senior computer classes that include four classes over two weeks. The class is a beginner-friendly computer course designed to make technology easy and safe for seniors. Participants will learn practical computer skills, enjoy hands-on practice, and a laptop will be provided for the class.
Registration required and people can stop at the first floor desk to register or call 989-356-6188 ext. 11.
On Wednesday, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. people can enjoy Doctor Tom’s Words & Music. Words & Music is back, and it is great for everyone who loves movies, music, and storytelling. This event is open to everyone and no registration is needed.
On Friday, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., there will be DND One Shot: Start and finish a shorter Dungeons and Dragons campaign through one-shot. The program is open to first-time DND players and those who have campaign experience. 6 spots available: Link to register https://bit.ly/3BrZir3
On Saturday, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. there is Maker Camp for teens between the ages of 12-18 years old. Join the library for a hands-on creative experience and discover how art, design, and technology come together. In partnership with True North Threads, students will get a behind-the-scenes look at the screen-printing process and create their own custom T-shirt to take home.

On Aug. 20, from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. there is Michigan Notable Author Talk, featuring Jeffrey Holden, who will discuss his book, Dead Moose on Isle Royale: Off Trail with the Citizen Scientists of the Wolf-Moose Project.
A Michigan Notable Book, it follows Holden and teams of citizen scientists as they trek through the rugged, remote national park to locate and study dead moose for the world's longest-running predator-prey research project.
On Aug. 27, from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m., kids ages 9-17 years old can enjoy game night at the library. During this 60-minute program, each attendee will have the opportunity to play multiple short team games. All games will be played in the Stillion Conference Room, unless otherwise specified.Registration is required to attend and space is limited to 16 players per session. On Aug. 29, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., there will be Legends of the Petoskey Stone. Through storytelling, cultural history, and natural science, this program connects Michigan's geology with Indigenous heritage, inspiring Michiganders to appreciate both the land they live on and the stories it holds. It is open to people of all ages.
