Alpena man arrested for accosting a minor for immoral purposes, resisting police

ALPENA – Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post arrested James Walsh, 33, of Alpena for allegedly accosting a minor for immoral purposes, using a computer to commit a crime, and resisting police.

A preliminary investigation indicates that on August 8, troopers were made aware that Walsh was engaging in conversations of a sexual nature with an individual posing as a 13-year-old girl. The conversations began in May and continued until troopers were notified on August 8.

During the investigation, troopers located Walsh in a parking lot of an apartment complex. When troopers advised Walsh he was under arrest, he resisted. Walsh was ultimately arrested and lodged at the Alpena County Jail.

Walsh was charged with one count Children- Accosting for Immoral Purposes, one count of Computers- Internet Communication with Another to Commit a Crime and Resisting and Obstructing Police.

Walsh was arraigned on August 11 in 88th District Court in Alpena. Walsh was given a $25,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is on August 19 at 1:45 p.m.
