Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union donates $500 to Tunnel to Towers 5k

ALPENA -- Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) recently donated $500 to the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk. The event will take place on Sept. 12 at Bay View Park in Alpena. The Tunnels to Towers Foundation is the organizer of the event and was founded to remember and honor the sacrifice of all who perished in the 9/11 attacks.

In the past 24 years, the Tunnels to Towers Foundation has raised over $1 billion in support of service members, veterans and their families. Some of the programs that funds go to support are the Smart Home Program which builds adaptive homes for the military's most catastrophically injured service members, the Gold Star Family Home Program which provides mortgage free homes to Gold Star families with small children, the fallen first responder program which provides mortgage payoffs for the first responders killed in the line of duty who leave behind a wife and small children, and the newest, the Homeless Veteran Program which creates veteran villages while committing to end veteran homelessness nationwide.

This donation is made possible by the credit union's Community Investment Fund. These funds are comprised of dollars donated back into our communities thanks to credit union members

who choose to receive their monthly statements electronically. The credit union pledges to donate $9 annually for each of these e-statements accounts. In 2026, AAACU will donate up

to $320,406.00 back into the communities they serve.
