HARRISVILLE -- The Alcona County Library has released brief descriptions for some of its upcoming events.

Below is a summary of the events and needed information to attend.

Adult Summer Reading Tickets Due Aug. 24

The final day to turn in tickets for the Alcona County Library's Adult Summer Reading Program is Aug. 24. All tickets must be submitted by noon at the Harrisville Branch, located at 312 West Main Street. The prize drawing will take place during that day's Alcona Book Club meeting. The book club will discuss Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green. Copies of next month's selection, The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, will also be available.

A Matter of Balance Program at Glennie

Beginning Aug. 24, the Glennie Branch of the Alcona County Library will host "A Matter of Balance," an award-winning program designed to help participants prevent falls, build strength and move with greater confidence. Classes will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. through Sept. 21. The program is intended for anyone who has fallen, is concerned about falling, has limited activities because of a fear of falling, or would like to improve their balance, flexibility and strength. The program is free, but space is limited. Register early by calling 989-335-1777 or emailing harrisvilleyoga1@gmail.com. The Glennie Branch, also known as the Curtis Township Library, is located at 4884 Bamfield Road.

NEMAG "Creative Eye" Exhibition at the Alcona County Library

The Northeast Michigan Artists Guild's "Creative Eye" exhibition will open Aug. 26, at the Harrisville Branch of the Alcona County Library. The exhibition will showcase the work of regional artists and remain on display through Oct. 17. This year's juror is Valerie Allen, an accomplished artist and educator. More information about Allen and her artwork is available at valerieallenart.com. The Harrisville Branch is located at 312 West Main Street. The public is invited to view the exhibition during regular library hours.
