HARRISVILLE – On Saturday at approximately 3:17 a.m. deputies from the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a vehicle that had crashed into Teresa’s Diner located in the City of Harrisville. Upon their arrival deputies observed a vehicle, driven by Nicholas Lamantia, 28, of Harrisville, crashed into the north wall of the diner causing severe structural damage. The deputies also discovered that because of the crash a large gas main on the side of the building was damaged and causing a large amount of natural gas to leak. The deputies evacuated several residences in the immediate area for safety. The utility company was notified and was able to stop the leak before any further damage was done to the building.
The deputies conducted their investigation of the crash and established that Lamantia was traveling southbound on U.S.-23 and Main Street when he left the roadway and struck the building. Nicholas Lamantia was placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated and lodged at the Alpena County Jail.
The Alcona County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Harrisville Fire Department, Greenbush Fire Department, and Harrisville and Greenbush First Responders.
