Online Lecture: Walking Political History in London's Westminster District
This event is slated for Monday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the ACC Madeline Briggs Center 143
Westminster district of London is Britain's royal and political capital. On this virtual field trip, join London historian Ruth Polling as we explore Westminster Abbey, the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament) and Downing Street. Tracing key moments across more than 800 years, this online tour examines how the English Parliament developed--and how power gradually shifted from an all-powerful monarchy to today's parliamentary democracy. This is a Road Scholar virtual lecture offered via Zoom at Madeline Briggs Center.
Sanilac Petroglyphs: Ezhibiigaadek Asin (Knowledge Written on Stone)
This event is scheduled for Tuesday, at noon and will wrap up at about 1 p.m. at the ACC Madeline Briggs Center 143.
The beautiful Sanilac Petroglyphs, carved into sandstone between 300-1,400 years ago - depict religious and cultural knowledge of indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes. Join the site's tribal and state park co-managers to learn more about this special place and what's ahead for the state park. This is a Historical Society of Michigan History Hounds Virtual Lecture offered by ALL via Zoom at Madeline Briggs.
Strength Training for All Ages
This event is also onTuesday from 2 p.m until 3 p.m. at the ACC Madeline Briggs Center 140
Christi Johnson will discuss the benefits of strength training, what it is, and why it’s so important as we age. Cristi Johnson is a World Champion Powerlifting Coach and the owner of Skella Fit Personal Training in Downtown Alpena. She specializes in weight training, boxing, self-defense, and roller derby. Cristi also hosts a free exercise program for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers on Thursdays at the 1st United Methodist Church on Ripley Blvd.
Moveable Feast at Alcona Brew Haus
This event is on Aug. 6 from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Alcona Brew Haus located at 676 N. US 23 in Harrisville.
Join the ALL Moveable Feast group for lunch at a local brewery known for great brewing as well as an allergen-free menu. Owner Sandy looks forward to meeting the fun ALL group and sharing her choices on a limited menu. The restaurant charges 3 percent for credit card sales. Make the coordinator aware of food allergens. Invite someone who has not enjoyed our fun-filled Moveable Feasts. Serving upscale comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere, Alcona Brew Haus looks forward to serving their guests. Admiral David Porter
This event is slated for Aug. 6, at the ACC Madeline Briggs Center 140 from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
David Porter, second only to David Farragut as a Union Naval hero, led the "brown water navy to victory at Vicksburg. Richard WolA is a retired Rockford Illinois lawyer who has spent summer vacations on Lake Avalon for more the 70 years. His hobby is research on the Union and Confederate Navies in the Civil War.
