ALPENA – According to Chelsea Engle, District Health Department No. 4 (DHD4) administrative health officer, there were 109 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis in the DHD4 coverage area as of Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
According to Engle, it takes three to seven days to get test results back for the parasite. As opposed to the common flu that will run its course, those who are affected with cyclosporiasis must be treated with prescription antibiotics.
Below are the confirmed case counts in each county DHD4 serves:
Alpena County – 95 cases
Montmorency County – three cases
Cheboygan County – three cases
Presque Isle County – eight cases
