Beach cleanup in Alpena

ALPENA — On Saturday morning, 42 volunteers showed up at Mich-e-ke wis Park to help rake and groom the beaches. There were piles of debris starting on the north side of Blair Street Park all the way to the water plant near Starlite Beach and Mich-e-ke wis Park. Some of the piles include large pieces of driftwood.

According to organizer Jeff Welch, Mich-e-ke wis Park is in poor condition and he added that the group of volunteers just scratched the surface in the amount of work that still needs to be done.
