ALPENA – The Michigan State Police (MSP) “Purses with a Purpose” initiative began in 2019 and has become an annual event. The MSP Alpena Post is accepting new purses or handbags filled with comfort items to benefit Hope Shores Alliance. The purses and their contents will be distributed to survivors of sexual assault. Donations can be made during regular business hours at the MSP Alpena Post, located at 3283 W. Washington Avenue, through April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
