Fatal house fire in Metz Township
Instigation continues, victim not identified
METZ TOWNSHIP — On Wednesday at 8:37 p.m. a 911 call was made to Presque Isle County Central Dispatch indicating that his neighbors house was on fire which is located in Metz Township.
The Posen Fire Department responded with three trucks and 12 firefighters and were assisted with mutual aid from Rogers City, Case Township, and Hillman Fire Department with tankers and manpower.
Upon arrival on scene, the single-story structure was fully engulfed in flames and a defensive fire suppression maneuver took place due to the severity of the fire.
After fire suppression was complete a victim was located in the main living area of the house.
At this time, the name of the victim, who was the lone occupant, and location are not being released due to the ongoing fire investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
The Posen Fire Department was also assisted by the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan State Police’s fire investigators, Cheboygan Life Support, Presque Isle Electric and Gas Co-op, and the Presque Isle County Road Commission.
First response crews cleared the scene at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
