Local firefighters battled a large fire in one of the business districts in Alpena on Wednesday. Shortly at about 3 p.m. a report of a fire on Chisholm Street near the Sports Page Lounge and John Boy’s restaurant was called into 911.

Heavy smoke poured from one of the structures that are built close together.

At deadline, it is not known where or how the fire started, or if there were any injuries. The street and alley near the buildings were closed and local utility companies were requested to shut off power and gas to the structures.
