ALPENA — Maple Ridge Township Supervisor John Male, 72, appeared in the 88th District Court in Alpena on Tuesday for a status conference for a series of charges he received last summer.
Male is charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, one count of open intoxicants in a vehicle, one count of disorderly person drunk and causing a public disturbance, and one count of trespassing for an incident that occurred on Aug. 23
He had an additional charge of trespassing added on Nov. 13 for an offense that occurred on June 20, according to MiCourt Case Search.
Male was arrested on Aug. 23 and arraigned for the original four charges on Oct. 14. He was arraigned for the additional trespassing charge on Dec. 16, according to MiCourt.
Defense Counsel Dave Funk said he is not able to settle the four charges at the moment.
On the single trespassing charge, Funk said he has complete discovery. Judge Alan Curtis suggested doing the pre-trial off the record for that charge, which Funk agreed to.
A pre-trial hearing provides an opportunity for an early resolution of a case by plea or dismissal without a trial or to narrow the issues for trial, according to Lewis and Dickstein P.L.L.C. A pre-trial might also be used to establish time frames for discovery, witness and exhibit lists, and for motions and other hearing dates.
Male will be back in court at 11 a.m. on Feb. 10 for both files.
