ONAWAY — Moran Iron Works (MIW) has announced the appointment of Joy Korte as vice president of operations, strengthening the company’s operational leadership and people-first culture.
In a press release, the company said Korte brings extensive executive experience in leading teams, strengthening operational systems, and shaping culture during periods of significant organizational growth. Known for her ability to align people, process, and purpose, she has built a reputation as a trusted advisor and steady leader who drives results while elevating morale and engagement.
“Joy hit the ground running, demonstrating solid leadership and a fresh perspective,” said Tom Moran, founder of Moran Iron Works. “Her abilities extend well beyond administration and accounting. She immediately led process improvement meetings for turbine components, resulting in improved quality and productivity. Turning her focus to marine operations, she visited our Escanaba facility and that division is already moving in a positive direction. Under Joy’s leadership, the entire team has come together at another level, and I’m proud to have her leadership and excited for the future.”
In her role as vice president of operations, Korte will oversee day-to-day operations while helping guide the company’s internal structure, communication, and long-term strategy – ensuring MIW remains positioned to deliver complex, high-quality work while supporting its expanding team.
“I’m honored to work for a visionary man and alongside a team that takes real pride in the work they accomplish,” said Korte. “Onaway is near and dear to my heart, and being part of a company so deeply rooted in this community makes this role especially meaningful.”
Korte brings a wealth of experience and a deep sense of purpose to her role with a leadership philosophy centered on stewardship, innovation, and people-first progress. “I believe growth begins with people,” Korte added. “My heart is for building opportunities, fostering collaboration, and strengthening the communities we serve.”
Korte’s leadership philosophy aligns closely with MIW’s belief that strong operations and strong culture are inseparable. In that spirit, MIW recently launched a new set of core values developed with input from team members across departments. Together, this leadership and values-driven approach reinforces pride, accountability, and shared ownership, setting a clear direction for Moran Iron Works as the company continues to grow.
