City of Alpena consolidates voter precincts
On Jan. 6, the City of Alpena Election Commission voted to permanently consolidate precincts, as allowed under Michigan Election Law. Prior to consolidation, there were five precincts and three polling locations. Following consolidation, there are now three precincts, with the same three polling locations.
Former Precincts four and five, which vote at First United Methodist Church, were consolidated and are now designated as Precinct two. Precinct three and former Precinct six, which vote at St. Anne’s Parish Center, were consolidated and will now be designated as Precinct three. All voters will continue voting at the same polling locations as before the consolidation. The only change is that some precinct numbers have changed. Precinct one, which votes at the APlex, was not affected by the consolidation.
As a result of these changes, voters in former Precincts four, five, and six will receive new voter identification cards in the mail within the next week or shortly thereafter. Voters in Precincts one and three will not receive new ID cards.
