Beach hazard in Northeast Michigan today

File Photo

A Beach Hazard Statement is in effect until tonight for Alpena, Alcona, Iosco and Arenac counties.

Dangerous swimming conditions are expected due to 4-to-6-foot waves and rip currents are possible.

Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water and high waves can sweep people off piers. People are urged to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
