Glennie fire results in loss of residence, occupant suffered from smoke inhalation
On Wednesday at 8:35 a.m. Alcona County Central Dispatch received a 911 call about a residential structure fire on Willert Street in Curtis Township. The Curtis Twp. Fire Department and deputies from the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival it was discovered that the home had flames that were exiting one wall. There was one occupant of the home who was suffering from smoke inhalation. Alcona County EMS tended to the occupant, who refused treatment or transport.
The Curtis Twp. Fire Department requested mutual aid and other area fire departments were dispatched to the incident. The fire suppression continued until 5:50 p.m. The Curtis Twp. Fire Department was assisted by Barton City Fire Department, Curran Fire Department, Mikado Fire Department, Lincoln Fire Department, Oscoda Twp. Fire Department, Plainfield Twp. Fire Department, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Fire Division.
The Alcona County Sheriff’s Office activated their Victim Services Unit who responded to the scene and assisted the homeowner with access to the Red Cross as well as other services. The American Red Cross was also on scene to assist with helping the fire agencies provide water and food to the firefighters and provide temporary housing for the homeowner.
The residence was a total loss. The possible cause of the fire has not yet been reported.
