ALPENA -- The 51st Annual Michigan Brown Trout Festival kicked off with live music and fun for the entire family over the weekend.
The festival began on Friday night with Royston Redneck Band playing in the Amrize Small Tent and Fire Lake, a Bob Seger tribute band, performing in the Veolia Big Tent. Both events packed the Alpena Boat Harbor and set the tone for a busy, fun weekend. The regular fishing tournament started on Saturday morning and will wrap up at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
On Saturday night, Truckey Road Experience kept the party going in the Amrize Small Tent, entertaining community members with covers of classic rock. Meanwhile, in the Veolia Big Tent, Driving Dawn and Raggedy Ann took to the stage in anticipation for the main event, Quiet Riot. Festivalgoers flocked to the stage to watch Jizzy Pearl (vocalist), Alex Grossi (guitarist), Johnny Kelly (drummer), and original Quiet Riot bassist, Rudy Sarzo perform.
The group commanded the stage with 1980s nostalgia, keeping the crowd dancing and singing for the entire set. Sarzo took a moment during the performance to remember his past bandmates that have since passed, including Kevin Dubrow and Randy Rhoads.
On Sunday, families visited the Veolia Big Tent and the Alpena Boat Harbor for more fun. Alpena first responders and emergency service personnel, along with many other community partners, entertained families with crafts, games, and snacks.
Also on Sunday, children ages 1 to 14 participated in the PNC Bank Kiddie Classic Fishing Tournament. Festivities wrapped up with a cornhole tournament in the Veolia Big Tent.
Today's entertainment includes Texas Hold 'Em from 4 p.m. to midnight in the Veolia Big Tent. The DAMM Band will perform from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Amrize Small Tent.
