Alpena varsity baseball sweeps doubleheader against Soo Black Sox on Senior Night

ALPENA – The Alpena Varsity Wildcats capped off their weekend with a dominant sweep over the Soo Black Sox, taking both games of Saturday’s doubleheader by scores of 13-3 and 7-0 at home.

Game 1: Wildcats power past Black Sox 13-3

Alpena came out swinging in the opener, putting up three runs in the first and never looking back. The Wildcats tallied 13 hits, with standout performances from Clark Weir (two-for-four, two runs), Jase Kollen (two-for-four, two RBIs), and Nathan Southard (two-for-three, two RBIs).

Brady Chapman continued to shine at the plate, reaching base three times and scoring two runs.

On the mound, Connor Cameron earned the win, pitching five strong innings with seven strikeouts and just two earned runs. Relievers Landen Gagnon and Clark Weir closed out the sixth to seal the win.

Defensively, Alpena committed three errors but limited the Black Sox to just two hits through five innings. Soo’s pitching struggled against Alpena’s aggressive offense, surrendering 13 runs on 13 hits and hitting three batters.

Game 2: Anderson and Weir combine for 7-0 shutout victory

In the second game, Alpena’s pitching duo of Colton Anderson and Clark Weir delivered a combined shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out four in the 7-0 win. Anderson picked up the win, tossing 3.2 innings before Weir took over for the final 3.1.

At the plate, the Wildcats were efficient and opportunistic. Brady Chapman had another multi-hit game, going three-for-three with a triple and two runs scored. Landen Gagnon and Michael Kreis each drove in a run, while Owen Kaiser stole a base and scored twice from the leadoff spot.

The Wildcats struck early and often, scoring in four straight innings from the second to the fifth. Alpena’s defense tightened up as well, committing just one error while stranding eight Soo runners.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Wildcats continue building momentum heading into the final stretch of the season, showcasing both offensive depth and solid pitching performances.
