POLICE BLOTTER: Montmorency County deputies respond to crash, downed power line, grass fire
Recent actions taken by law enforcement agencies in Northeast Michigan. This has been only lightly edited.

April 14
7:14 a.m. We got a report of a beaver near the school and the principal was concerned it would cause an issue when the children got off the bus. A deputy responded to the scene and rehomed the beaver across the street.
10:01 a.m. A resident of Albert Township had a propane lamp blow up inside her home, she reported her kitchen on fire. The Albert Township Fire Department responded to the scene, the fire was out prior to arrival.
1:46 p.m. A deputy responded to a report of two large brush fires in Albert Township; upon arrival the fires were in rings and were being monitored with hoses.
2:04 p.m. A power line arcing was reported in Albert Township; the fire department responded and waited for PIEG to repair the wires.
3:17 p.m. A Briley Township resident turned himself in to Alpena County Jail to serve his sentence.
4:03 p.m. A two vehicle crash was reported in Avery Township; no injuries were reported. A deputy responded to take the report, and one of the vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
5:02 p.m. A report of a power line that had caused a fire in Avery Township was made. With the wind as a factor the fire quickly got larger, there were multiple structures involved. Tri Township Fire and EMS, Hillman Fire, Albert Township Fire, Vienna Fire and Atlanta DNR all responded to the scene.
April 15
10:49 a.m. Dispatch received a call referencing a pole down on Kneeland Street. Albert Township Fire responded to the scene, a witness advised the fireman that a truck had snagged the line and pulled it down. It was not a power line, it was a Spectrum line. Spectrum responded to the scene to fix the damage.
April 16
7:11 a.m. A vehicle deer accident was reported in Rust Township; a deputy responded to the scene and the deer was dispatched.
April 17
7:42 p.m. A grass fire was reported in Hillman Township; Hillman Fire Department responded to the scene and found the source of the fire was from a branch that had fallen on a powerline that caught on fire. PIEG was contacted and both crews worked to have the branch removed and the fire extinguished.
April 18
2:58 p.m. A resident of Albert Township called to request two dogs picked up, one of the dogs had porcupine quills. Deputies responded to the residence and picked up the dogs.
3:53 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a subject in Rust Township; a deputy responded to the residence and spoke with the homeowner, everything was fine.
5:57 p.m. A large rottweiler was found in Briley Township. Deputies were able to locate the owners.
6:40 p.m. Hillman Fire Department responded to a report of a subject illegally burning household items.
7:24 p.m. Albert Township Fire Department responded to a residence possibly struck by lightning. Upon arrival, everybody was found to be okay but the well head on the property was struck.
8:30 p.m. PIEG was notified of a sparking transformer in Briley Township.
April 19
3:33 a.m. Dispatch was notified of 2 male subjects that entered a residence in Hillman Township without permission. A physical description of the subjects and the vehicle they were driving were provided but the incident happened 20-30 minutes prior to the call being made. Deputies drove the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
9:56 a.m. An assault no longer in progress was reported to dispatch. MCSO deputies responded to the scene to speak with the victim. The suspect left prior to the call; he was later located and arrested for OUIL and simple assault. The suspect was transported to Alpena County Jail and lodged.
1:08 p.m. A subject showed up in the MCSO lobby for a civil standby. A deputy followed her out to the residence where she was able to collect a good portion of her belongings and cleared.
6:09 p.m. A driver on M32 ran out of gas while commuting to Alpena. A deputy came across the subject and stopped for a motorist assist. The deputy was able to provide the driver with some gas and cleared.
8:49 p.m. A vehicle/deer accident was reported in Briley Township; a tow truck was requested.
8:50 p.m. ACCD contacted dispatch to confirm warrants. MSP was out with subject showing valid warrants out of MCSO. The subject was arrested and lodged at ACJ.
April 20
4:05 a.m. A deputy removed a deer from the roadway in Hillman Township.
10:18 a.m. MSP responded to a commercial intrusion alarm in Briley Township.
5:33 p.m. Albert Township Fire received a burning complaint. There was no burn ban in place, fire cleared when they were unable to locate the fire.
8:59 p.m. Deputies responded to a neighbor dispute in Loud Township. Deputies spoke with all parties involved and were able to come up with a solution for the night.
9:25 p.m. Albert Township Fire Department responded to a barn fire. Tri Township Fire Department and Vienna Fire department were requested for man power and water. The fire was later put out and all departments cleared.
