Alpena Wildcats shut out Cadillac Vikings 6-0
ALPENA — The Alpena Wildcats delivered a 6-0 victory against the Cadillac Vikings on Friday night, showcasing strong offensive skills.
The Wildcats set the tone early in the first period.
Garrett Hamp led the charge with a hat trick, playing an important role in the Wildcats’ offensive success.
Hamp opened the scoring with 13:25 left, assisted by Brody Misiak and Gavin Winterstein. Five minutes later, Owen VanDusen extended the lead with a goal set up by Joseph LaCross and Jackson Birmingham. Shortly after, Winterstein found the back of the net, assisted by Hamp.
Much of Alpena’s success stemmed from their ability to create scoring opportunities throughout the game. The repeated connections between players like Hamp and Winterstein, as well as Misiak’s involvement in multiple assists, highlighted the team’s emphasis on shared effort.
The Wildcats maintained their momentum in the second period, with Hamp scoring just two minutes in off another Winterstein assist. He completed his hat trick with 46 seconds left in the period.
The scoring concluded in the third period when Lucas Weir netted Alpena’s sixth goal with two minutes remaining, assisted by Misiak.
While Alpena celebrated a strong win, their performance also hinted at areas for potential improvement as they prepare for future challenges. Even in a shutout victory, refining defensive strategies and ensuring discipline in high-pressure situations remain priorities.
Alpena’s ability to neutralize Cadillac’s offensive efforts proved effective as they shut out the Vikings.
