Alpena falls to Traverse City West 63-48 in boys basketball matchup

ALPENA –The Alpena High School Wildcats faced Traverse City West in a competitive match on Friday night, ultimately losing 63-48.

Seniors Oliver Duthler and Connor Cameron, along with sophomore Eddie Prue, led Alpena in scoring.

Duthler contributed 16 points, Cameron added 11, and Prue followed with 10, combining for the majority of Alpena’s offensive output.

Alpena entered halftime trailing 28-38.

Traverse City West established an early lead with consistent three-point shooting, which proved difficult for the Wildcats to defend.

Alpena also faced challenges with jump ball violations throughout the first half, which disrupted offensive momentum and resulted in turnovers.

Despite those setbacks, the Wildcats stayed within striking distance, maintaining a narrow deficit for much of the half.

Traverse City West capitalized on multiple turnovers by Alpena, converting them into scoring opportunities.

The Wildcats struggled to secure rebounds as Traverse City West effectively blocked second-chance opportunities.

To address those issues, Alpena’s coaching staff called several timeouts to regroup and implement adjustments.

In the second half, Alpena continued to compete, with Duthler, Cameron, and Prue leading the team offensively.

Traverse City West, however, maintained its lead through steady defensive efforts and scoring efficiency, including continued success from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats found themselves unable to close the gap.

The matchup showcased Alpena’s ability to stay competitive against a strong opponent, while also identifying key areas for improvement as they prepare for future games.
