Several Alpena High School swimmers break personal records

Alpena High School’s varsity swim team on Tuesday fell short of the win away at Alma, with the score of 76-92.

Coach Jennifer Johnson said the team swam well and many swimmers earned personal records throughout the evening.

Olivia Sherwood, Sarah Rabbideau, Tryst Bukowiecki, and Elizabeth Rabbideau placed first in the 200-yard medley relay and second in the 400-yard-freestyle relay.

Hailey Diemond got personal bests in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Haley Stenz swam personal bests in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Madalyn Farley swam personal bests in the 100-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle. Allie Donajkowski swam a personal best in the 200-yard freestyle. Rabbideau swam a personal best in the 500-yard freestyle by cutting seven seconds.

“As a coach, I try to tell the team, ‘You have to look at the bigger picture. It’s all a process,” Johnson said. “This is only the second season the swim team has been back, and, every meet, we have had swimmers getting their PR. That’s very exciting. Growth and improvement has been seen throughout the season.”

The team will travel one last time for the Independent Swim Conference Meet on Nov. 8 and 9 at Saginaw Valley State University.
