The Alpena Community College Cross Country team opened its season on Aug. 30 at the St. Clair Skipper Invitational.

“This is the earliest we have ever had a meet, so we haven’t had a lot of time to practice as a team,” ACC Coach Mark Jacobs said. “We will use this meet to gauge where we are and where we need to get to reach our season goals. The exciting part is I already have four solid runners. In Cross-Country, you need five good runners to be successful. I’m looking forward to seeing who out of my other four is going to step up and be that man.”

The Lumberjacks were led by freshman Ryan Allen (Reed City) who ran a 28.46 for the 8K race. Allen finished ninth overall out of 122 runners. His time also placed him number 16 all-time at ACC for the 8k. Following behind Allen were Chip Allen (Alpena), Carter Upper (Harrisville), Ty Kailing (Reed City), Dante Gray (Manistee), Calvin Hibbler (Livonia), Ben Purat (Novi) and Forrest Hissong (Ludington).

Alpena’s next week will be Saturday at the Ray Helsing Invite at Ferris State University.
