Alpena, Ossineke men take 2nd in walleye tourney
ALPENA — A Northeast Michigan team claimed second place in the Masters Walleye Circuit World Walleye Championship that brought dozens of anglers to Alpena last week.
Alpena’s Romeo Bourdage and Ossineke’s Mark Haugerud caught 35 pounds, 9 ounces of fish to claim second place in the Lake Huron tournament, according to the Masters Walleye Circuit’s online leaderboard.
A second area team, consisting of Greenbush’s Mike Karner and Oscoda’s Adam Hume, took fifth place with 22 pounds of fish.
The winning team came from Wisconsin. Wayne Butz and Joseph Sommers caught more than 50 pounds of fish to claim the $15,000 top prize.
In an email to The News, Bourdage credited Mary Beth Stutzman and her team at the Alpena Area Convention and Visitors Bureau for helping to bring the three-day tournament to Alpena.
