Alpena has reopened North 2nd Avenue between Fletcher Street and Hueber Street following the substantial completion of a major infrastructure project by Team Elmers.

Funded through water and sewer fees, the project included installing 4,200 feet of new water mains, 3,200 feet of sewer mains, 20,000 square feet of sidewalk, 8,500 feet of curb and gutter, and 3,200 tons of asphalt.

While final costs still are being compiled, the original contract was for $3.2 million and the project appears on budget.

Some cleanup and restoration work will continue this year, with full completion expected next spring, including the addition of 30 new trees.
