Silent Swarm military exercises start Monday

Silent Swarm will take place Monday through July 26 at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena.

The exercise may include manned and unmanned surface vessels in the water and small unmanned airborne systems. The results from the experiments will improve capabilities for military personnel, the military said in a news release.

Additionally, military and civilian personnel will work with communications and radar equipment that will not interfere with other frequencies or electronic communications in the area, the news release said.

During the exercises, mariners can expect many small, unmanned surface, sub-surface, and air vehicles in operation. All unmanned vehicles will have manned vessels in the vicinity for control and safety.

The military asks the community not to approach, touch, or interfere with vessels.
