Alpena Public Schools Board of Education discusses operations for 2024-25 school year
ALPENA — The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, addressing various topics significant to the district’s operations and planning for the upcoming school year.
They talked about memberships that provide advocacy and networking benefits.
Members emphasized the Alpena Chamber of Commerce’s role in local community support and its potential for building relationships with businesses. They debated the benefits of belonging to the Michigan Association of School Boards for professional development and advocacy, which are crucial for guiding the district’s governance and policies. They also discussed the Northern Michigan Schools Legislative Association for collaborating on legislative issues affecting Northern Michigan education.
Legal matters were a significant part of the discussion, leading to the board’s approval of hiring the Thrun Law Firm of Lansing. The decision was based on the firm’s expertise in educational law and its proven service record to schools statewide.
