Two men arrested for stealing power tools in Alpena
ALPENA –Two Florida men were arrested on Saturday for allegedly stealing power tools from The Home Depot in Alpena, according to a press release from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the press release, around 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, The Home Depot in Alpena reported to the Sheriff’s Office that two male subjects allegedly stole a large amount of power tools and left the store without paying. The two suspects were last seen by a Home Depot employee witness who followed the suspects going westbound on M-32 until they reached the area of Indian Reserve Road where the employee discontinued.
Officers from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police searched the area until a sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle on M-32 near Jacks Landing Road in Green Township.
The officer discovered $34,960 worth of power tools allegedly stolen from six different The Home Depot locations in Michigan as well as $2,200 in merchandise allegedly stolen from TJ Maxx in Saginaw.
Both men are from Florida and are lodged at the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office pending formal charges from the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office for retail fraud first degree and receiving and concealing stolen property over $20,000.
The U.S. Border Patrol assisted the Sheriff’s Office in identifying the subjects and MSP assisted on the scene, according to the press release.
