ALPENA — Despite breaking endless soccer records, including all-time points, goals, and many others, Reese Wisniewski’s passion lies between the baselines on the basketball court, which is why she’s committed to playing basketball at Alma College next season.
Alongside all of the Alpena soccer records, Wisniewski has destroyed several basketball ones over her career as a Wildcat, including steals in a game, season, and career.
Wisniewski broke single-game and single-season steals in her junior year, where she eventually racked up enough during her senior season to fulfill the trifecta.
Within that senior year, Wisniewski did everything in her power to lead Alpena to the district finals.
By leading the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game, assists at 3.8, steals with 103, deflections 122, blocks 20, and an overall field goal percentage of 55%, the Wildcats relied on her play every night.

“Reese (Wisniewski) has been a girl I’ve coached from such a young age, and she brought her best game every single day with us over the years,” Alpena coach Laura Dubey said. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her because I know she’ll work hard to do great things.”
Even though her Alpena athletic career is coming to an end, looking back at past memories and most remarkable moments from high school is why college basketball has been an ambition.
Wisniewski highlighted a moment, from over two years ago, that completely heightened her love for basketball.
Remembering the intense feeling of winning and walking away with the district title over Traverse City Central stands out among the rest for its competitiveness and once-in-a-lifetime joy to be able to cut down the nets.
While these memories are precious, Wisniewski hopes to experience this again at the college level, playing for the Scots.

Over the next four years, Wisniewski will be challenged at all levels of the game, but her past coaches and others surrounding her have unwavering confidence in her abilities.
“Everyone says freshman year is a tough adjustment, and I’m going to go into the season with that mentality,” Wisniewski said. “I know it’s going to be tough physically and mentally, so I’m just ready to get on the court to prove that I can play.”
Out of the many college offers she received, Alma stood out for its personalness and connectability felt by the player.
Everyone, between the coaching staff and the campus, seemed friendly, welcoming Wisniewski with open arms.
The smaller, more high school-esc campus will provide a location similar to home, a quality that Wisniewski sought when choosing her new home.

“The coaches have always been supportive throughout the recruiting process, and they constantly showed a lot of interest in me. Their belief in me made it an easy choice for me because of their value in my skills and my personality,” she said.
Off the court, Wisniewski will further her aspirations in teaching, hoping to graduate with a degree in elementary education.
After she achieves her degree, she hopes to become a second-grade teacher, inspiring kids with the same shining personality and charisma she brings to the world every day.
As she continues this learning path and the opportunity to play basketball at the Division Three level, Wisniewski wants to express her appreciation to all who made this journey possible.
“I’d like to thank my parents most of all because they’ve been with me through everything,” Wisniewski said. “I’d also like to thank my coaches, my teammates, and my friends who have supported me my whole life.”
