LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: AHS golf places 8th

On Wednesday, the Alpena High School boys golf team placed eighth of 10 teams.

The Wildcats traveled to the Torch Course at A-Ga-Ming for Traverse City Central’s BNC Meet. As a team, they shot 377.

Avery Spicer led the scoring with an 81.

Junior Varsity also competed, shooting a 410.

Carter Koproski led JV with a 94.

Their next home meet is Friday at Alpena Golf Club.

WILDCATS SOFTBALL LOSES 2 TO GAYLORD

On Tuesday, the Alpena High School softball team played Gaylord. The Wildcats lost both games of the doubleheader.

In game one, the final score wrapped up 11-1 in favor of Gaylord.

“I was very proud of our Alpena squad as we played on of our best games of the year in the first game versus the reigning D2 state champions,” Alpena coach Paul Marwede. ” We came out with energy and poise, we had a good mental present at the plate and put the ball in play.”

Entering the fourth inning with Gaylord leading 2-0, Gaylord erupted for six runs and put the game away.

Game two ended with Gaylord scoring 18 against Alpena’s 1.

“Gaylord showed why they are the top team in the BNC and setting their sites on another trip to MSU,” Marwede said. “They are a very good team, a complete team.”

Sydney Hitzelberg led the Wildcats at the plate going 3 for 4 on the day. Emilee Modrzejewksi chipped in with two hits in game two.

Alpena plays Charlton Heston Academy – St. Helen tonight at home.

AHS GIRLS SOCCER LOST TO TCC

The Alpena High School girls soccer team lost to Traverse City Central on Tuesday. The final score was 3-0 favoring TCC.

The Wildcats played well for majority of the first half, but were unable to find the net. TCC scored late in the first half.

Minutes later Faith Henski was able to make a PK save with minutes to go in the first half.

AHS was unable to connect and generate offese despite their best efforts.

The second half ended similarly to the first, Alpena unable to find the back of the net and allowing two more goals by TCC.

Their season score currently sits at 7-8-1.

The Wildcats compete at Petoskey High School tonight.
