County tax proposals announced

ALPENA — Voters in Alcona, Montmorency, and Presque Isle counties, and the townships in them, will have a lot to consider as there are many tax proposals on the August primary election ballots.

Below is a list of the ballot proposals and a ballpark figure on how much each will cost property owners if approved.

The primary election is on Aug. 6.

ALCONA COUNTY

911 Central Dispatch

The county is seeking 0.25 mill for funding for a comprehensive, countywide next-generation 911 emergency telephone and central dispatch system, equipment, and operational needs.

If approved by voters, it will cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000, about $12.50 a year. The estimate of revenue the county will collect if the millage is approved and levied in the first year is $236,929.

Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services

The county is seeking a four-year, 0.4978 mill for county-wide emergency medical services. The tax, if approved, would cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000 about $25 a year. The county anticipates receiving about $471,774 in tax revenue in the first year for acquiring and maintaining emergency medical service vehicles, equipment, existing buildings and structures, medical supplies, and inventory.

MSU Extension

The county is seeking a four-year, 0.14 mill for sustaining 4-H youth development, agriculture and agribusiness, health and nutrition, horticulture, and other community education programs.

The tax is expected to generate about $132,680 in the first year. The tax will cost the owners of a house valued at $100,000 about $7 a year.

ALCONA TOWNSHIP

Roads

Alcona Township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill renewal for road maintenance and improvements. If approved, the tax is expected to generate $126,438 in the first year.

Fire

Alcona Township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill renewal for fire protection. The tax would cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000, about $50 a year. The tax is expected to generate $126,438 in the first year.

CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP

Fire

Caledonia Township is seeking a six-year renewal of its 1 mill fire millage. The tax money will be used for operations at the fire departments covering the township. The tax will cost homeowners of a house valued at $100,000 $50 a year and will generate about $143,322 in the first year.

CURTIS TOWNSHIP

Library

Curtis Township is seeking a 0.50 mill, 10-year renewal of its library millage. The tax funds are for operations, maintenance, and equipping the Curtis Township Library and for all other library purposes. The tax will cost a homeowner who owns a house valued at $100,000, $25 a year. The revenue from this millage levy will be disbursed to the Curtis Township Library and to the Alcona County Library pursuant to contract.

GUSTIN TOWNSHIP

Fire

Gustin Township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill tax renewal for fire services. The tax will be used for fire protection, with a portion being disbursed to the Lincoln Downtown Development Authority. This tax will cost a homeowner of a house valued at $100,000, $50 a year.

Roads

Gustin Township is seeking a four-year, 1.9946 mill tax renewal for road construction and maintenance. The annual cost of the tax for a homeowner with a house valued at $100,000 just under $100.

HAWES TOWNSHIP

Roads

Hawes Township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill tax renewal for maintaining roads. The tax is expected to generate about $87,000 a year and cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000, about $50 a year.

Fire

Hawes Township is seeking a four-year, 1.5 mills tax for operation of the fire departments covering the township. The tax will cost a property owner with a home valued at $100,000 about $75 a year.

HAYNES TOWNSHIP

Roads

Haynes Township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill tax for construction, maintenance, and improvements of roads. The tax will cost a homeowner of a house valued at $100,000 about $50.

MIKADO TOWNSHIP

Fire

Mikado Township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill tax renewal for maintaining and operating the township fire department. This tax will cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000, about $50 a year.

MILLEN TOWNSHIP

Roads

Millen Township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill tax renewal for maintaining township roads. The owner of a house valued at $100,000 will pay about $50 if the proposal is approved.

Fire

Millen Township is seeking a four-year, 1.5 mill tax renewal for fire protection services from the Barton City Fire Department. This tax would cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000 about $75 a year.

MONTMORENCY COUNTY

Headlee rollup

Montmorency County is asking voters for a 0.0791 increase to its general operations millage to make up for what the county lost from the Headlee rollback. This tax increase would generate about $440,000 in its first year for county operations.

Sheriff

The county seeks a 1 mill, four-year tax renewal for retaining four sheriff’s office deputies, a drug enforcement officer, vehicles, and police equipment. The tax will cost a homeowner of a house valued at $100,000 about $50.

Library

The county is seeking a four-year, 0.60 mill renewal for library operations and support. The tax will cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 about $30 a year.

MSU Extension

The county is seeking a 0.25 mill, four-year tax renewal for 4H and MSU Extension services and programs. The tax will cost the homeowner of a house valued at $100,000 about $12.50 a year.

ALBERT TOWNSHIP

Cemetery and Parks

The township is seeking a two-year, 0.50 mill tax for improvements at the cemetery and parks. This tax would cost a homeowner with a home valued at $100,000 about $25 a year.

Headlee

The township is seeking an operational tax increase of up to 0.50 mill to make up for the loss of tax revenue due to the Headlee rollback. This tax would cost a person owning a home valued at $100,000 about $25 a year.

AVERY TOWNSHIP

Fire

The township is seeking a two-year, 1 mill tax for fire and operation services from the Tri-Township Fire Services. The tax would cost a person owning a house valued at $100,000 about $50 a year.

BRILEY TOWNSHIP

Fire

The township is seeking a 1 mill tax increase for fire services. If passed, the owner of a home valued at $100,000 would pay roughly $50 a year.

HILLMAN TOWNSHIP

Fire

The township is seeking a four-year, 0.75 mill tax renewal for fire protection services. If approved by voters, a person with a home valued at $100,000 would pay about $50 a year.

Ambulance

The township is seeking a four-year, 2-mill tax for advanced life support ambulance and operations in the township. If passed, it will cost a person with a $100,000 house, about $100 a year.

LOUD TOWNSHIP

Fire

The township is seeking a two-year, 1 mill tax increase for fire services via the Tri-Township Fire Services. The additional tax will cost a taxpayer who owns a house valued at $100,000 an additional $50 a year.

Montmorency Township

Ambulance

The township is seeking a renewal and increase to its current ambulance tax. The proposal is for 2 mills, which is double the current ambulance tax. The tax, if passed by voters, will cost a person owning a house valued at $100,000 about $100 a year.

Refuse sites

The township is asking voters for a renewal and increase for three refuse transfer sites in the township. The total of the tax is 0.75 mill, which would cost a homeowner who owns a house valued at $100,000 $37.50 a year. The tax would be for four years.

Fire

The township is seeking a tax renewal and increase for fire services. Voters will decide on a 0.75 tax for four years, which will cost a person who owns a house valued at $100,000 about $37.50 a year.

RUST TOWNSHIP

Fire

The township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill renewal of its fire millage. The money will be used for fire department operations and equipment. This tax will cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000 about $50 a year.

Roads

The township is seeking a four-year, 1 mill tax renewal of its road millage. The money will be used for road maintenance and improvements. This tax will cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000 about $50 a year.

Ambulance

The township is seeking a four-year, 2 mills renewal of the ambulance millage. The tax money will be used for operations and equipment. The tax will cost the owner of a house valued at $100,000 about $100 a year.

VIENNA TOWNSHIP

Emergency Services

The township is asking voters for a four-year, 1 mill renewal of the Emergency Medical Services tax. The tax will cost a person who owns a home valued at $100,000 about $50 a year.

PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY

Ambulance

The Rogers City Area Ambulance Authority is seeking a 1 mill, four-year tax renewal for ambulance services. The ambulance authority provides service to a large portion of Presque Isle County. If approved, the cost of the tax for a homeowner with a house valued at $100,000 is about $50.

Senior Transportation

The county is seeking a four-year, 0.25 mill tax for the county’s senior transportation program. If approved, a property owner with a house valued at $100,000 will pay about $12.50 a year.

School Resource Officer

The county is seeking 0.33 mills to provide operations and management to the resource officer positions in each of the public schools in the county. If approved, it will cost a homeowner about $16.50 for a house valued at $100,000.

METZ TOWNSHIP

The township is seeking a 1 mill increase to its operations tax. If approved by voters, it will cost a homeowner with a house valued at $100,000 about $50 a year.
