ALPENA –The Alpena Community College Board of Trustees was given a glimpse of the college’s 2025 budget during a board meeting on Thursday.

ACC Vice President of Administration and Finance Nick Brege told the board ACC can expect the budget will be largely similar to the current year, with small increases in revenue — such as a 6.8% increase in property taxes — and expenditures — such as a 4.1% increase in employees’ fringe benefits.

The college’s new budget year begins July 1.

The college projects a $17 million budget next year, a 5% increase from this year’s budget.

“It’s pretty much in line with this year,” Brege told the board. “Just modest increases are nothing out of the ordinary, nothing substantial.”

Brege highlighted some big projects in the project, the largest being a $600,000 replacement of boilers in the Besser Technology Center.

According to Brege, the board will hold a special meeting on June 4 to go over bids for that project.

“We’re in a position right now where it will be done on time,” Brege said. “We have a special board meeting coming up that will keep us on track.”

During Thursday’s workshop, some board members expressed interest in looking into some renovations for the Granum Theatre. While nothing was formally decided on that matter, there was a unified sense of interest in having an expert appraise the space to figure out what work needed to be done.

“We should have somebody who was an expert come in and look at what we need to do,” board Chairman John Briggs said. “Have them lay out a plan and get it done.”
