SPORTS ROUNDUP: AHS baseball wins one, loses one

Alpena High School’s baseball team lost to Midland Dow on Saturday with a final score of 11-8.

Caleb McEwen threw four innings, giving up six runs on five hits, striking out three batters, and gave up four walks. Kaleb Donajkowski was 3-5 at the plate and Brady Chapman was 3-4.

“Team played good baseball,” said coach Eric Mackenzie.

The team also played Fowler on Saturday, winning 2-0.

Donajkowski threw six innings striking out 11, walking one.

Jake Zann earned the save. Jase Kollen, Conner Chapman, Jon Rensberry, and Brady Chapman all collected hits for Alpena.

The two games over the weekend put their record at 3-2.

HILLMAN SOFTBALL WINS TWO

Hillman High School’s varsity softball played their home opener on Monday against the Pickford Panthers.

Hillman won the first game, 11-4.

Nicole Barbeau took the win with 10 strikeouts on the day.

Leading offense was Hannah Crane, Autumn Lis, and Aubrie Weiland who all went two for three. Barbeau also had a grand slam.

The Tigers also took the win in the second game, with a final of 10-0.

The winning pitcher was Gretchen Weiland who struck out nine in five innings.

Aubry Wieland and Autumn Kazyaka led the offense going two for three each. Saige Flaugher had two sacrifice bunts, scoring two.

Hillman plays Grayling at home on Wednesday.

ALCONA TAKES TWO WINS

The Alcona High School softball team hosted Roscommon on Monday.

The Tigers won the first game 15-0.

Pitching was Miah Schopher for three innings.

She had five strike outs and gave up one hit.

Top offense for that game was Sage Gauthier, Rilee Tracy, Addison Beatty, Claire Somers, and Schoper who all batted 1000. Schopger added a double and single, while Gauthier put up a double. All others added singles.

Olivia Borchardt went two for three adding a single and a triple. Ellyana Grimshaw went one for two, adding an inside-the-park homerun.

The Tigers also won the second game 15-0.

This game was pitched by Addison Beatty, who gave up two hits and struck out three in three innings.

Leading offense for that game was Schoper, who went three for three, tallying two doubles and a triple.

Beatty, Somers, and Wambold went two for three, adding a single and double, single and inside-the-park homerun, and two singles, respectively. Gauthier and Borchardt went one for two with a double and single, respectively.
