LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: AHS softball loses two close games

Alpena lost two games at Swan Valley on Saturday, with final scores of 7-6 and 11-7.

During game one, Paige Samp threw a complete game scattering 8 hits and collecting 11 K’s.

Alpena had a 6-3 lead heading into the seventh inning but relinquished four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Throughout the game, Laura Poli had a homerun and Eliana Kelley picked up two hits for Alpena.

In game two, while trailing 8-2 after four innings, Alpena rallied back for a closer game at 8-7, but eventually fell 11-7.

Emilee Modrzejewski and Lilly Rospierski led Alpena at the plate with two hits each. Alpena used three pitchers in game three with Maddie Spomer getting the start and Ava Rospirski and Lilly Rospierski each pitching in relief.

Alpena travels to Lake Orion on Friday and plays in the Lake Orion Invitational on Saturday.

HILLMAN DEFEATS ATLANTA TWICE

Hillman High School’s varsity baseball team defeated Atlanta, 15-2, on Tuesday during the first game of the day. Hillman also took the win during game two with a final of 17-2.

Hillman ended the day with 15 hits and three errors, while Atlanta was only able to get six hits and six errors.

From these season-starting games, Hillman is sitting at 2-0 overall.

Hillman’s next game is Tuesday at home against East Jordan at 4 p.m.
