LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: AHS baseball, golf share recent results

AHS TAKES WIN, LOSS ON SATURDAY

Alpena High School’s baseball team competed over the weekend, taking one loss and one win. In game one on Saturday, the Wildcats played Gladwin, winning 17-1. Their bats came alive scoring 17 runs on 13 hits.

Jake Zann had six RBIs, Gabe Glawe was 2-3 at the plate, and Tucker Bright, Jon Rensberry, and Kaled Donjakowski were two for two in the game. Grant Jarema also was two for three at the plate with three RBIs.

In the second game, Alpena lost to Freeland, 10-3.

The Wildcats didn’t capitalize on making plays with runners on base during this game.

“We have to do a better job of making plays and taking outs that are given and keeping runners off the bases,” coach Eric Mackenzie said.

Jon Rensberry was 2-4 at the plate.

ALPENA BOYS GOLF COMPETED MONDAY

Alpena High School’s boys golf team played various opponents in the Cheboygan Invitational on Monday, taking ninth with a score of 388.

Senior Avery Spicer led the team with a 92.

Junior Varsity also competed in Cheboygan, placing second by a single stroke out of six JV teams, with a score of 383.

Anthony Thompson, Kaleb Werth, and Andrew Glomski all earned top-ten honors in JV, shooting 94, 94, and 96, respectively.

The team plays again on Wednesday in Cadillac’s BNC Invitational.
