Alpena County wants SkyWest

File Photo

On Tuesday, the Alpena County Board of Commissioners voted to recommend to the U.S. Department of Transportation that it selects Skywest Airlines to be the essential air service provider for the Alpena County Regional Airport. SkyWest, which is the current air service provider, submitted a bid for a three-year contract to continue providing flights from Alpena to Detroit.

Boutique Air was the only other bigger, but in its proposal, it said they would use a plane that only carries about nine passengers per trip.
