Six Woods Track Club members placed in latest competition

Six Woods Track Club state qualifiers competed at the Michigan Indoor Track Series Indoor State Championships at the Lincoln Athletic Building on Feb. 24 and 25.

Melody Kauffman led the way for The Woods heaving a lifetime best of 38’7 1/2″ in Weight Throw. With this outstanding performance, Kauffman solidified a fifth-place finish and earned MITS Indoor All-State honors. Kauffman also threw an indoor best of 32’2 1/4″ in Shot Put.

In the Sprint Medley Relay (SMR 1600), the team of Braeden Mathis, Thorin Rogers, Joe Sheridan, and John Kurowski blazed a new best of 3:49.96 to finish 10th of 32 teams in the state — just two places from All-State recognition.

Brady Carlson closed the competition for The Woods as he threw 35’9″ in Weight Throw in his state finals debut. These Alpena High School athletes open outdoor practice today and begin competition at Lake Superior State University on April 5.
