Peters helps secure funds for Northern Strike
U.S. Sen. Gary Peters said his yes vote on the recently passed government funding bills helped bring money to Northern Michigan to keep a large military exercise active in Alpena.
In a press release Monday, Peters said he helped secure a provision that provides $23.5 million to support Operation Northern Strike — the National Guard Bureau’s largest joint service, multicomponent exercise.
Northern Strike takes place annually at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center, which utilizes both the Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center and the Alpena Combat Readiness Center, which are both based in Northern Michigan.
The federal government passed the spending package and President Joe Biden signed it over the weekend to avoid a government shutdown.
