Alpena woman arrested after stealing truck and handgun

A 25-year-old Alpena woman was arraigned last week in the 88th District Court in Alpena for stealing a vehicle and a handgun.

She is charged with one count unauthorized driving away of a motor vehicle, a count of larceny of firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 29, a trooper from the Michigan State Police-Alpena Post responded to a report of a stolen vehicle and handgun from a residence on Kleve Road in Ossineke.

The alleged victim said the suspect stole his pickup and a 9mm handgun from his residence. According to the alleged victim, the woman was renting a room from him for the past several weeks.

The trooper reviewed the home’s security footage and observed the suspect leaving the residence in the truck.

A statewide law enforcement broadcast was issued and detectives used advanced surveillance techniques to locate the suspect, police said. The vehicle was observed in the parking lot of a motel on Dix Highway in Lincoln Park.

Detectives knocked on the door and identified the woman when she answered the door.

A search warrant for the suspect’s motel room was executed an. detectives recovered the stolen pistol, prescription pills, and the truck in the parking lot.

The suspect was lodged at the local jail and later transported to the Alpena County Jail.
