Meijer union ratifies new contracts
Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951 have voted to ratify new Meijer contracts that give workers of the grocery store improved wages, paid time off, health care, and more.
Three separate contracts, all four-year agreements, go into effect on Sunday and immediately increase wages by $1.50 per hour.
Other changes include more paid time off for workers hired after Oct. 23, 2005, 25% increases in the company’s 401(k) match, increased premiums, new paid family care leave for those taking care of seriously ill family members, and more.
Under the new contracts, all new Meijer employees are required to join the union or pay a service fee as a condition of employment. Current workers who originally opted not to join the union will have until June 15 to become members, pay the service fee, or quit.
