Alcona Tigers beat Oscoda Owls, 47-36
Alcona High School's boys basketball team defeated Oscoda, 47-36, on Monday.
The leading scorer for the Tigers was Garrett Somers with 18 points. Another high scorer was Evan Borsvold with 9 points.
Head coach Alex Cole said, "I am proud of the guys for locking in on defense and executing our game plan. We struggled a bit on offense at times, but Garrett Somers was able to hit some big shots when we needed a boost. We are always excited for the big dipper part of the season and am pleased to have started league play 2-0."
Oscoda's lead scorer was Blake Mallak with 16 points.
The Tigers play Mio-Au Sable at home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Hillman Tigers defeat Atlanta
Huskies, 76-16
Hillman boys basketball improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the NSL Little Dipper division after defeating Atlanta 76-16 on Monday.
Junior guard Brenden Rouleay scored 16 points and Sophomore wing Evan Crane scored a career-high 10 points.
The Tigers were led by Senior Trenton Taratuta, who had 24 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. Taratuta is now 48 points shy of 2,000 points in a career, which would make him only the 46th player in state history to score over 2,000 in a career.
Overall Monday, the team had 28 steals.
"We had good energy tonight after having four days off but will have to play with a little more intensity on Wednesday as we try to avenge an early season road loss to Ogemaw," said coach Eric Muszynski.
Hillman plays at home tonight against Ogemaw at 6 p.m.
